..Calls it Betrayal in Shadows
A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, Mr. Austine Ibok, has raised the alarm over an alleged plot by members loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to manipulate the upcoming party congresses in the state.
In a recent Facebook post, Ibok accused the group of already pre-determining the results of the congress and writing the names of their preferred candidates. He referred to the alleged move as “betrayal in the shadows,” expressing concern that it undermines internal democracy and disregards the will of the people.
According to Ibok, the Wike-aligned faction, allegedly led by stakeholders like Sir Arthur Javis, has been openly boasting that the outcome of the congress is a forgone conclusion. He claimed that the group, leveraging its influence at the national level, has instructed the National Secretary and the National Organizing Secretary of the party to reject any result that does not favor their camp.
“This is a dangerous plot against the PDP in the State, undermining of internal democracy and disregard for the peoples’ choice,” Ibok wrote. “It is therefore imperative that the South and all critical PDP stakeholders across every level remain alert to these schemes.”
Ibok further warned that the alleged actions by Wike’s camp are an attempt to “compromise the credibility of the congress, and destroy every effort to rebuild the PDP in CRS.” He urged all party members and stakeholders to be vigilant against these schemes.
The PDP in Cross River State has been grappling with internal divisions and this latest allegation shows the ongoing power struggle within the party ahead of the forthcoming congresses.
According to Ibok, “How Wike’s Camp Plots to Compromise the PDP Congress in Cross River-Result written already.
“The Wike stooges like Arthur Javis and his group continue to boast openly, insisting that the outcome of the forthcoming congress in CRS has already been predetermined. They brag that whether or not the South votes for them or not, the result has already been written, and because of their reach at the national headquarters, the National Secretary and the National Organizing Secretary, (staunch loyalists of Wile), have been instructed to reject any congress result that does not favor their camp.
“This is a dangerous plot against the PDP in the State, undermining of internal democracy and disregard for the peoples’ choice. It is therefore imperative that the South and all critical PDP stakeholders across every level remain alert to these schemes. Wike’s camp seeks to undermine due process, compromise the credibility of the congress, and destroy every effort to rebuild the PDP in CRS.”
