The Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi (FUTIA) recently equipped its engineering workshop with new tools, aiming to enhance the practical component of its engineering programs. The strategic initiative, which focuses on supporting students in the School of Engineering and Engineering Technology, was unveiled on Monday, July 28, 2025, at the university’s takeoff campus.
During the unveiling, Vice-Chancellor Professor Leo Daniel, who was represented by Registrar Mrs. Offiongita Nkang, emphasized the importance of the new equipment. He explained that these resources are particularly aimed at bolstering the practical skills of second-year engineering students.
The Vice-Chancellor congratulated Dr. Bassey B. Okon, the Acting Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, along with the students and the entire School of Engineering, for the new additions. Professor Daniel, a Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics, also used the opportunity to urge all students to stay focused on their studies and make effective use of the new tools to improve their academic results.
He also stressed the critical need for safety, admonishing lecturers, technologists, and students to strictly follow industrial safety protocols and workshop rules when using the equipment for learning and research.
In his own remarks, Dr. Bassey Okon, who is also the Coordinator of the Students Industrial Workshop Experience Scheme (SIWES), expressed his gratitude to the university’s management for their quick approval and support in equipping the workshop.
