Hon. Egbung Odama Mourns Bekwarra Student Lost in Fatal Road Accident, Commiserate with Families

The Executive Chairman of Bekwarra Local Government Area, Hon. Egbung, Odama Egbung, has received with heavy heart the news of a ghastly motor accident that occurred yesterday in Yakurr Local Government Area. The tragic incident claimed the lives of two beloved Bekwarra students who were traveling to Calabar for their convocation ceremony and a veteran nurse who was returning to her place of service.

Hon. Egbung lamented, “This is a dark moment for our Local Government. The loss of any life is a tragedy, but to lose our young scholars in such a sudden and violent manner is a pain that words can hardly capture. On behalf of the Local Government Council and the people of Bekwarra, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and communities affected by this monumental loss. We stand with you in this hour of grief, and our prayers are with the souls of the departed.”

While acknowledging the deep pain and anger felt by the community, the Chairman issued a passionate appeal to the youth and the general public to maintain peace. He urged citizens to refrain from retaliatory attacks on drivers or transport workers within the Local Government.

“We cannot honor the memory of our students and nurse by inflicting more damage on ourselves,” the Chairman cautioned. “The lives lost were Bekwarra’s pride, but the properties we might seek to destroy also belong to our people. Violence solves nothing; it only leads to further suffering and a breakdown of order. I urge everyone to resist the urge to take the law into their own hands.”

In response to the tragedy, Hon. Egbung has directed the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident to prevent future occurrences.

The Chairman has personally reached out to those receiving treatment in the hospital. He is monitoring their recovery closely to ensure there are no logistical hurdles should referrals to specialist facilities be required. He also pledged to remain in close contact with the bereaved families to provide the necessary support during this difficult period.

The Chairman concluded by calling on all Bekwarra people to honor the deceased through strength, unity, and resilience.

May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of

God, rest in perfect peace.
