The Obudu German Hospital, an initiative of His Excellency, former Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prof. Ben B. Ayade, stands as a strategic, historical, and monumental achievement, one that remains outstandingly unmatched.
This health facility ranks among the best in the country and in many respects, it even outperforms the only federal tertiary medical facility, the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, in terms of available equipment and medical infrastructure.
Strategically and functionally located, the hospital is designed to meet the advanced healthcare demands of over 75% of the State’s population. Before its establishment, a typical resident of Northern Cross River would travel nearly six hours to the State capital to access critical diagnostic services such as CT scans, MRI scans, and direct digital X-ray examinations. But now, we not only have these services available locally, they are performed on world-class machines, including a 64-slice CT scanner and a 1.5T MRI system.
Beyond addressing healthcare gaps, the facility has created job opportunities by attracting top-level professionals who had never before been accessible to the region.
This has resolved a long-standing health emergency in one of the most underserved areas of the State. For example, before the inception of the Obudu German Hospital, there was no practicing Radiographer in the entire Northern Cross River. The hope of accessing standard radiological services was nonexistent. Today, not only are state-of-the-art machines available, but patients also benefit from the onsite presence of consultants across various medical specialties.
This hospital is more than a facility. it is a life-saving intervention and arguably the most significant healthcare development in Northern Cross River’s history.
God Bless Cross River
