Best Graduating Students’ Prize Money: UNICAL Provides Clarification On 37th Convocation Concerns

Payment of Best Graduating Students at UNICAL 37th Convocation Ceremony: Facts of the Matter

A report circulating online alleging that the University of Calabar administration has failed to pay cash prizes to best graduating students/award winners at the 37th Convocation Ceremony is both false and misleading, to say the least.

It is with pride and high regard that the university management holds the best graduating students in the institution’s convocation ceremonies because they represent excellence.

We wish to state that payment of award recipients began right at the last convocation ceremony with the presentation of cheques and cash prizes to a number of winners as they filed out for recognition and collection of their certificates.

However, those whose cash awards were deposited by the sponsors into the account for that purpose were requested to supply their account details; and this took a long time for some to do, sadly. Secondly, a few of the account names supplied do not correspond with those of the award recipients. Thirdly, there have been cases of late payments into the account by some sponsors of the prizes.

The above problems have resulted in some people being paid while others are yet to, as explained to those who have contacted relevant officers of the University on this matter.

We wish to use this opportunity to assure our alumni, award recipients yet to receive their cash prizes and the general public of the preparedness of the University administration under the leadership of Prof. Florence Banku Obi to continue to deepen the culture of excellence by letting everyone have their due.

Thank you.
