In a heartwarming display of community service, the Henry Ojong Foundation and Engr. Maurice Nkong recently partnered to undertake a medical and surgical outreach for the underprivileged people of Ishobori community and environs in Ogoja Local Government Area.

The 2-day outreach, held at the Ishobori Town Hall building from Friday, July 26th to Saturday, July 27th, 2025, offered a wide range of free medical services, including eye checks, medicated eye glasses and eye drops distribution, free drugs, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, malaria and typhoid tests, medical consultations and general counseling.
Over 350 medicated glasses were distributed to those in need, and six patients were booked for surgeries, including hernia, appendicitis and cataracts operations. Additionally, more people will undergo fibroid removal operations in the coming days. In total, 1,218 persons received various categories of medical attention during the outreach.
Convener of the program, Engr. Maurice Nkong, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Cross River State on Public Relations, explained the motivation behind the outreach.
According to Engr. Nkong “The Henry Ojong Foundation and I came together to ameliorate the living conditions of the people. We put together some physicians to cater to their needs, and we are hoping to do more. Health is very paramount, and for people of this demography, such an outreach goes a long way to aid their daily lives.”
The outreach was highly commended by the community, and the organizers have pledged to continue their efforts in other parts of the state. This initiative is an indication of the power of collaboration and community service, bringing much-needed medical care to those who need it most.
