The Senate Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has embarked on an oversight tour of several road reconstruction projects in Cross River State. The committee, led by its Chairman and Senator representing Cross River South, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, conducted the inspection on Tuesday, joined by top officials from the NDDC.
The delegation’s tour included an inspection of three significant road projects: The 20-kilometer Okomita to Uyanga to Ehom Road, which spans the Akamkpa and Biase local government areas.
The 1.5-kilometer Idundu Junction to Idundu Bridge, located in Akpabuyo Local Government Area.
The 10.8-kilometer Aking to Osomba Road, in Akamkpa Local Government Area.
All three projects are being executed by Mssers Faith Plant Nig. Ltd.
During the inspection, Senator Ekpenyong noted the importance of the projects, describing them as “vital commodities evacuation corridors” that will boost trade and improve access to essential services for local communities. He emphasized the commitment of the 10th Senate to provide legislative support to ensure the projects are completed to the highest standards. He also commended Governor Bassey Otu for his efforts in infrastructure development in the state, stating that the NDDC must continue its interventionist projects.
Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director of the NDDC, assured residents of the Commission’s dedication to quality infrastructure. “These roads will ease transportation burdens and drive socio-economic growth,” he said, vowing to work with the Senate Committee to ensure transparency and accountability in project delivery. He was also praised by Senator Ekpenyong for his commitment, having resumed work in the field just hours after celebrating his 50th birthday.
