According to Cross River Watch, a new political party, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), has formally applied to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for registration. The party, which has Cross River-born Akin Ricketts as its Protem Chairman, submitted a comprehensive application to INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
The application, signed by Ricketts and Protem National Secretary Abdullahi Musa Elayo, includes details such as the party’s name (All Democratic Alliance), acronym (ADA), and slogan, “Justice for All.” It also features the party’s national secretariat address, logo description, manifesto, and constitution.
ADA’s leadership highlighted that their application adheres to relevant legal frameworks, including Sections 40 and 222 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution, Section 75 of the Electoral Act (2022) and established global democratic principles.
The letter to INEC states, “We respectfully write to the Independent National Electoral Commission (NEC) requesting the registration of our association, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), as a political party.” It further explains that the application follows a decision by the Nigerian National Coalition Group to sponsor ADA for full registration.
The party’s documents provide in-depth information about its ideology, organizational structure, and legal framework, including the symbolism of its colors and the image of corn (maize) in its logo.
Akin Ricketts, who previously served as Commissioner for Information under former Governor Liyel Imoke and as Chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Ports Authority, is leading the new political outfit. The party awaits further action from INEC regarding its registration.
