C’River TCTI DG, Professor Adedoja Celebrates World Teachers’ Day, Reaffirms State-Wide Teacher Training Coverage

Director-General of the Teachers Continuous Training Institute (TCTI), Biase, Professor Taoheed Adedoja has joined the global community and other stakeholders in honoring educators worldwide on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day 2025.

Speaking to a vibrant gathering of teachers at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar on Sunday, Professor Adedoja underscored the significance of the theme: ‘The Teachers We Need for the Education We Want: The Global Imperative to Reverse the Teacher Shortage.’

Professor Adedoja emphatically stated that the TCTI is the state’s strategic answer to ensuring every educator is equipped with 21st-century pedagogy. He urged teachers to view the institute not as an option, but as a vital resource for their sustained professional development.

“TCTI with its world-class facilities, has successfully retrained over 4,000 teachers in the last four years. Our mission is clear: no teacher in Cross River State will be left behind in this golden opportunity for continuous capacity building”, he stated.

The Director-General stressed that TCTI’s curriculum is built on promoting shared learning, inclusivity and structural reforms necessary for collaborative growth, thereby placing Cross River teachers at par with the best contemporaries.

Professor Adedoja used the occasion to profoundly honour the teaching profession.

“This day is dedicated to honouring your steadfastness, resilience and enduring commitment to nation-building.

“Your dedication to revitalizing learning and strengthening a culture of collaboration directly leads to better learning outcomes and knowledge retention for our students.”

He commended the visionary leadership of the State Governor, Senator (Prince) Bassey Otu, for undertaking important ICT-driven knowledge infrastructure aimed at empowering the teachers. He also lauded the state Commissioner for Education, Professor Stephen Odey, for his support towards the institution’s training development.

Concluding, Professor Adedoja reiterated the Institute’s resolve to implement policies that prioritize classroom-level growth and pedagogical excellence.

“The TCTI will aggressively continue to train tutors and prioritize their professional growth through targeted capacity building,” he affirmed.

“I call on every teacher here who has not yet benefited from the training at TCTI Biase to seize the opportunity now.”

Professor Taoheed Adedoja, an experienced educator and former Minister of Sports and Special Duties, lauded the teachers for their high level of professionalism, which remains foundational to state and nation’s collective development.
