The confirmed commissioners are Engr. Ubong Etukudoh, Engineering; Dr Valerie Okon Obot, Finance and Corporate Services; Mr Paul Okon, Economic Regulation; Dr Kalu Ukoha, Policy, Planning and Innovation; and Ms Arit Okon-Uya, Stakeholder Engagement and Consumer Affairs.

Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, announced the confirmation during plenary held on Tuesday at the old Assembly Chamber, Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo.

The confirmation followed the consideration and adoption of a report by the House Committee on Judiciary, Justice, Human Rights and Public Petitions, presented by its Chairman, Hon. Aniefiok Attah, who represents Nsit Atai State Constituency.

The House Leader, Rt. Hon. Otobong Bob, moved the motion for the confirmation of the nominees. It was seconded by the Deputy Leader, Hon. Nsidibe Akata.

Governor Umo Eno had forwarded the names of the five AKSERC commissioner-nominees to the House for confirmation on Thursday, April 16, 2026.

The nominees are the first set of commissioners sent to the House by the governor since the passage of the state’s electricity bill in 2024.

During the screening, lawmakers commended Governor Eno for selecting professionals they said were capable of supporting efforts to address electricity challenges in the state.

Hon. Udobia Friday Udo, representing Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency, said adherence to due process in selecting competent people for public responsibilities would improve governance outcomes and service delivery.

At the same plenary, the House urged the state government to continue the construction of perimeter fencing around public secondary schools as part of measures to reduce criminal activity and protect school facilities.

The Assembly also called for the provision of modern science laboratories in public secondary schools across the state.

Lawmakers further recommended the involvement of Ibom Community Watch and other security agencies in efforts to prevent vandalism in schools.

The resolutions followed the adoption of a report by the Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Hon. Onofiok Kenim.

Kenim said the committee had engaged the Commissioner for Education, the Permanent Secretary of the State Secondary Education Board and other stakeholders in the secondary education sector.

The issue followed a motion received by the House during its sitting on Thursday, March 5, 2026, on the urgent need to equip and standardise science laboratories in public secondary schools across Akwa Ibom State.

Speaker Otong directed the Clerk of the Assembly, Mrs NsikakAbasi Orok, to communicate the House’s resolutions to the governor for implementation.

Plenary was adjourned to Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 12 noon.
