A suspected underworld figure was shot dead in broad daylight outside a petrol station in Caesarea, north of Tel Aviv, in what Israeli police suspect was a targeted hit.

The victim, 40-year-old Yanis Yushvaev, was identified by Israeli law enforcement as the head of an organized crime syndicate linked to Israel’s Jewish Caucasus community.
Security footage captured the moments leading up to the targeted hit. The gunman, wearing a grey hoodie, black cargo trousers and a white baseball cap approached the station with his hands concealed inside his pockets.
As Yushvaev and two associates stepped outside the building, the attacker pulled out a handgun, walked directly up to Yushvaev and fired a single shot into the back of his head at point-blank range.
The shooter fled immediately as Yushvaev fell, leaving his two companions in shock.
Reports circulating on social media suggest the gunman may have disguised his appearance using a realistic, silicone “second skin” mask to evade identification. The killer reportedly escaped in a waiting vehicle, which was later found abandoned and set ablaze in a nearby town to destroy physical evidence.
Yushvaev was long considered by law enforcement to be a major figure in the Israeli crime landscape, leading a crew operating primarily across the Sharon region and coastal cities like Hadera and Or Akiva.
Despite frequent arrests in recent years over allegations ranging from drive-by shootings and grenade attacks to widespread vehicle arson, Yushvaev managed to avoid long-term convictions, publicly maintaining that he was merely a legitimate restaurant owner and businessman. During a court proceeding, police prosecutors formally described his network as a “criminal gang involved in blood feuds.”
Coastal District police have launched a homicide investigation into the brazen execution. While the motive and exact identity of the assassin remain officially under investigation, authorities are treating the killing as a high-profile gangland execution tied to ongoing rivalries within the Israeli underworld.
