Legal Triumph: Alumnus Victorious Over University of Uyo at Supreme Court

A protracted legal battle spanning over a decade concluded today at the Supreme Court of Nigeria, with an alumnus of the University of Uyo’s Faculty of Law securing a definitive victory against the institution. The alumnus, who has chosen to remain anonymous for this report, overcame persistent opposition from what they described as “certain Professors and Senior Advocates” who had initially claimed they would never obtain their law degree.

The saga began in 2012 following the alumnus’s graduation from the University of Uyo. Despite initial resistance to their degree, the alumnus successfully pursued legal action, first at the Federal High Court in Uyo, where they won a judgment of over ₦5 million in damages.

The university, seemingly undeterred, appealed the decision to the Court of Appeal, where the alumnus once again prevailed. The case then escalated to the Supreme Court.

According to the alumnus, as the legal battle progressed, the university allegedly resorted to harassment, intimidation and arrest through the police. This turn of events prompted a fresh lawsuit, which resulted in another victory for the alumnus, this time with damages exceeding ₦22 million. The university’s subsequent appeals against this second judgment were also unsuccessful.

Today’s Supreme Court ruling marks the final resolution, with the alumnus expressing profound gratitude for divine strength and acknowledging the support of their legal team: Daniel G. Daniel Esq., John James Esq., and Wisdom Chukwumere Esq.

“It’s been by God’s strength that I have shown them that there is no luck in knowledge,” the triumphant alumnus stated, adding, “I showed them that intelligence is not in big names and titles.”

This landmark ruling not only validates the alumnus’s decade-long fight for justice but also sends a strong message regarding the resilience of individuals in pursuing their rights against formidable institutions.
