The United Nations Peace Envoy, Ambassador Agim Godwin Apple, has commended Godwin Orim for his exemplary leadership during the recent peace and security summit, which aimed to address the tensions between the Obudu and Vandekeiya Local Government Areas (LGAs). This summit held particular significance due to the reported destruction of farmlands in the Obudu community, allegedly perpetrated by individuals from the Bezelu community in Vandekeiya.
Hon. Rhoda Ashong, the Vice Chairman of Obudu, led a delegation comprising key stakeholders, including traditional and political leaders, to engage in constructive dialogue. Under her leadership, the meeting yielded important resolutions aimed at de-escalating the conflict.
Participants demonstrated a strong commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence, enhancing inter-community cooperation, and protecting traditional institutions. They also underscored the necessity of collaborating with security agencies to avert any future violence.
The summit attracted notable attendees, including Mr. Godwin Orim Jr., Community Relations Officer to the Governor of Cross River State; Mr. Emmanuel Ikem, Special Adviser to the Obudu Chairman on Peace and Security; and several senior officers from law enforcement agencies. This gathering not only underscored the community’s commitment to peace but also reinforced the significance of unity and cooperation in overcoming challenges.
