The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joseph Ikpea, has been declared the winner of the August 16, 2025, by-election for the Edo Central Senatorial District to fill the void left by the current Edo State governor, Monday Okpebholo.
The official declaration was made on Sunday at the senatorial collation center in Ubiaja, Esan South-East Local Government Area, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returning officer, Professor Kingsley Ubaorji.
According to the results announced by INEC, Mr. Ikpea secured a decisive victory, polling a total of 105,129 votes. His closest challenger, Joe Okojie of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), received 15,146 votes.
The by-election was held to fill the vacant seat for the Edo Central Senatorial District. Ikpea’s victory hands the APC a significant win in the state.
