Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria has officially transferred the chairmanship of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone. The handover occurred during the 65th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, which concluded in Abuja on Saturday.
During the session, President Tinubu reflected on his tenure, acknowledging the significant challenges the region faced, particularly political instability in several member states. Despite these hurdles, he expressed confidence in the future of the bloc, voicing optimism for continued progress under President Bio’s leadership.
For his part, the newly appointed ECOWAS Chair, President Bio, committed to advancing the achievements of the organization. He reiterated his dedication to fostering regional peace, accelerating economic integration and strengthening democratic governance throughout West Africa.
