The initiative, aimed at ending longstanding power outages and boosting the local economy, is being executed through the Cross River State Electrification Agency (SEA).

The installations target critical communities and public institutions in the Northern, Central and Southern Senatorial Districts, aiming to improve energy distribution and drive socio-economic activities.

The deployments include new transformers and rehabilitation of existing infrastructure.

Speaking on the development, the Director-General of the SEA, Mr. Francis Ekpo, noted that the intervention was strategically designed to support critical communities and public institutions that have been underserved.

“This project targets areas requiring urgent energy support to drive socio-economic activities and improve the quality of life for residents,” Ekpo stated.

The deployment includes a mix of massive 1MVA and 500KVA units to ensure stable distribution in high-density areas:

Southern District: A 1MVA transformer has been installed at Ekorinim (by Redeemed Church), while Nature Court Estate/50 Plots in Parliamentary Extension received a 500KVA unit.

Central District: Residents of Unebu Community, Ugep (Yakurr LGA), saw the deployment of a 500KVA transformer to resolve perennial power challenges.

Northern District: Strategic installations include a 500KVA unit at St. Joseph, Okuku (Yala LGA), and a 300KVA unit at the G.R.A., Igoli in Ogoja.

Rehabilitation of School and Church Infrastructure

Beyond new installations, the Otu administration is also prioritizing the maintenance of existing assets. Rehabilitation works are currently underway for the 300KVA transformer at the Catholic Church, Okuku. The 300KVA unit serving the historic Mary Knoll College.
