The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, on Thursday received the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NIGCOMSAT Limited, Ms. Jane Egerton-Idehen, and her team during a courtesy visit to his office at the Government House, Calabar.

In his remarks, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey commended NIGCOMSAT for selecting Calabar as the host city for such a forward-looking initiative and expressed gratitude for the organization’s collaboration with the state government. He noted that the training and hackathon represent a bold step in bridging the digital divide and positioning the youth of Cross River to tap into the enormous opportunities in the global space and tech economy.
Odey reiterated Governor Bassey Otu’s commitment to harnessing technology and innovation to drive economic development, nothing that the partnership with NIGCOMSAT will not only open the minds of our youths to the vast potential of space technology but also build local capacity that can serve the future of Nigeria’s digital economy.
Earlier, Ms. Egerton-Idehen appreciated the state government for its warm reception and reiterated NIGCOMSAT’s commitment to driving grassroots engagement in satellite technology. She emphasized that the Calabar event is part of a broader national agenda to raise awareness and build skills that will shape Nigeria’s future in space-based communication and digital infrastructure.
She further stated that her visit to the state is part of her engagement in the ongoing NIGCOMSAT VSAT Training and SpaceTech Hackathon being held in Calabar.
The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Justin Beshel, alongside other members of the NIGCOMSAT delegation, were also in attendance.
