Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS, the suspended Governor of Rivers State has made a strong declaration of commitment to the people of Rivers State, assuring them he will not abandon them despite the current political climate. His remarks, delivered recently, emphasized a need for collective sacrifice to achieve lasting peace in the state.

“I can’t abandon you people — that’s one thing I need to say here,” Fubara stated during a public ceremony with the Minister of fCT Nyesom Wile, reiterating his dedication. “This is the time for me to prove to you that I care for you, and I make my commitment here that whichever way it goes, I will not abandon anybody.”

The Governor however cautioned residents about the challenges ahead. He stressed that the path to peace would demand significant effort from everyone. “The sacrifice that we are going to make for us to achieve this total peace is going to be heavy, and I want everybody to prepare for it,” he warned.

Fubara used a local analogy to illustrate his point, referencing a fish known as “Atabala,” or native Tilapia. “The mother Tilapia used to tell the kids that if you want to grow up to my own size, hide your head inside the mud,” he recounted. He then drew a parallel to the current situation in Rivers State: “Every one of us should understand that at this time, we’ve done our best and what we need now is this peace so that we can grow.

I know it’s difficult and heavy, but that’s the true situation.”

The Governor’s statement comes amidst ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, with his words seemingly aimed at rallying support and preparing the populace for what he suggests will be a demanding, but ultimately rewarding, journey towards stability.
