Governor Okpebholo Blames Predecessor, Obaseki for Edo’s Many Collapsed Roads

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has attributed the poor state of roads across the state to the failures of the previous administration, led by his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki. The governor stated that he inherited a “completely collapsed road infrastructure” upon assuming office.

Governor Okpebholo made these remarks during an inspection tour of several damaged roads in the Edo Central Senatorial District. He expressed his dismay at the widespread decay, questioning why the previous administration allowed such a level of infrastructural neglect over the past eight years.

Among the roads inspected were the Onewa–Udomi–Ibhiolulu, Afada–Idumoza, Eko–Uwaya–Ewora roads, as well as dilapidated sections of the New Agbor Road and Illushin Road in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area.

The governor lamented the hardship faced by motorists and residents due to the road conditions but assured them that his administration is committed to resolving the issue. He pledged that with the backing of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, his government would begin immediate intervention to fix the roads, which he noted affect all three senatorial districts of the state.

Governor Okpebholo promised to adopt a strategic approach to address these critical infrastructure challenges to boost economic activities and improve the lives of Edo residents.
