Medical Army Officer Dies After Wife Allegedly Sets Him Ablaze in Akwa Ibom Barracks

A tragic incident stemming from a domestic dispute has led to the death of a Nigerian Army officer, Lieutenant Samson Haruna, after his wife allegedly set him on fire at the Wellington Bassey Barracks in Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The incident reportedly occurred on September 22, 2025, following a heated argument between Lt. Haruna and his wife, Mrs. Samson Haruna.

According to sources within the barracks, the dispute escalated when the wife allegedly doused the officer with petrol (PMS) and ignited it.

Lt. Haruna, a medical doctor who served as the Regimental Medical Officer (RMO) for the 6 Battalion, sustained severe burns in the attack. He was immediately stabilized at the Military Reference Section (MRS) within the barracks before being urgently evacuated to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) for advanced medical care.

Despite the efforts of the medical personnel, the officer ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

Further reports from security sources indicate that the suspect, Mrs. Samson Haruna, has been arrested and is currently in custody as investigations into the horrific incident are ongoing.
