Nigeria’s D’Tigress have advanced to the semi-finals of the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket, continuing their decade-long dominance on the continent. The Nigerian women’s national basketball team secured their place with a commanding victory over Cameroon in the quarter-finals.
The team’s win not only pushes them closer to a potential gold medal but also keeps alive their chance to become the first African team in history to win the Afrobasket title five consecutive times. D’Tigress has been the undisputed champion since 2017, having won the tournaments in 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023.
The victory over Cameroon held special significance, as it was the same opponent that handed D’Tigress their last defeat in the 2015 semi-finals. Since that loss, the team has been on an unprecedented unbeaten streak, a remarkable run that has lasted for a full decade.
They now await the winner of the quarter-final clash between Mali and Senegal to determine their semi-final opponent. The team’s focused performance in Kigali has reinforced their status as tournament favorites as they strive to make history.
