NLNG, NCDMB Commissions ICT Hub In Port Harcourt to Boost Digital Skills

The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) have reinforced their commitment to human capital development and technological inclusion by commissioning a fully remodelled and equipped ICT Centre at Baptist High School, Port Harcourt.

The commissioning event, which took place on Thursday, was part of a dual ceremony that also marked the close-out of a year-long Human Capital Development (HCD) Basic Training Programme designed to enhance employability among young Nigerians.

The development was confirmed in a statement released by the NLNG Manager, Corporate Communication and Public Affairs, Anne-Marie Palmer-Ikuku.

Speaking at the event, the NCDMB Executive Secretary, Engr. Felix Ogbe, who was represented by the General Manager, Institutional Strengthening, Mr. Olugbenga Sheba, hailed the new facility as a “gateway to knowledge, innovation, and future opportunities.”

He stressed that the project reflects the organizations’ shared vision to equip young Nigerians with essential digital skills for a technology-driven world.

“The remodelled ICT Centre is more than a building,” Mr. Sheba noted. “It is a statement of belief that students here can learn coding, design, and innovation that connects them with the world… It represents our confidence that when given the right tools, Nigerian students can become creators, innovators, and entrepreneurs.”

The intervention at Baptist High School includes a 40-seater ICT Centre, a 20KVA solar and inverter system, renovated classrooms, administrative buildings, digital smart boards and modern learning tools.

Sophia Horsfall, NLNG’s General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to compliance with Nigerian Content regulations and its vision of empowering communities through education and technology.

“The upgrade executed at Baptist High School, apart from complying with extant regulations under NCDMB’s guidance, is an investment that gives students a modern learning environment and provides teachers with better tools to deliver quality education,” she stated.

The NCDMB Executive Secretary’s representative further commended NLNG for its sustained collaboration, emphasizing that such partnerships demonstrate what can be achieved through meaningful cooperation between government and corporate stakeholders to build a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.

The joint capacity-building efforts also celebrated the close-out of the HCD Basic Training Programme, where 30 trainees were awarded international certifications. The certifications covered critical industry skills, including Engineering, Marine Operations, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), and Entrepreneurship, vital for the oil and gas sector.

The ceremonies underscored the joint mission of NLNG and NCDMB to build local capacity, promote technological inclusion, and support Nigeria’s broader vision of sustainable development through education and skill acquisition.
