Otu Fulfils Promise, Commences Rehabilitation of Electricity Infrastructure Akamkpa After Years of Blackout

The Governor of Cross River State, Senator (Apostle) Prince Bassey Edet Otu, has delivered on his commitment to improve power supply in Akamkpa Local Government Area, with the installation of transformers in the Awi-Akamkpa-Uwanga axis.

The transformers were officially delivered on Tuesday by the Director General of the Cross River State Electrification Agency (CRSEA), Mr. Francis Ekpo, marking a significant milestone in the state’s ongoing rural electrification efforts.

This development follows the May 26, 2025, flag-off of the rehabilitation and electrification of the Akamkpa electricity network, which was spearheaded by Mr. Ekpo in the company of key government stakeholders. Present at the flag-off were the State Commissioner for Works, Hon. Pius Ankpo, Member Representing Akamkpa I State Constituency in the House of Assembly, Hon. Okon Owuna, and the Executive Chairman of Akamkpa LGA, Hon. Akposi.

The provision of the new transformers is part of a broader infrastructure plan by the Otu-led administration to tackle the long-standing power supply challenges across the state, especially in rural communities. The gesture has sparked joy and relief among residents, who turned out in numbers to receive the installations.

Speaking during the handover, Mr. Ekpo reaffirmed the Governor’s commitment to addressing the needs of the people. “This is not just a promise kept, but a clear demonstration that His Excellency, Governor Bassey Otu, listens and delivers. These transformers will improve electricity in Awi, Akamkpa, and Uyanga communities, and that means better lives, better businesses and better development,” he said.

Residents of the benefiting communities expressed deep gratitude to the Governor for what they described as a timely intervention. They pledged their continued support for his administration and commended the Governor’s People-First Agenda, which they say is already yielding tangible results.

“This is a dream come true. For years we have suffered poor electricity, but Governor Otu has shown that he is a man of his word. We are grateful and proud of his leadership,” said a local resident.
