Police Service Commission Approves Major Promotions of 11 DCPs, Appoints New DIG

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced a sweeping series of promotions across the Nigeria Police Force, including the appointment of a new Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), the elevation of a Commissioner of Police (CP) to Assistant Inspector General (AIG), and the promotion of eleven Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to substantive CPs.

The Commission approved the appointment of AIG Dankwara Adamu Mohammed as the new DIG to represent the North East Geopolitical Zone. He steps in to replace the recently retired DIG Sahabu Abubakar Yahaya.

In a key elevation, CP Abibo Deinma Reuben was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).

Eleven Deputy Commissioners of Police were elevated to the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP). The newly promoted CPs include:

Naziru Bello Kankarofi

Nendel Joseph Gomwalk

Tijani Olaiwola Fatai

Wilson Aniefiok Akpan

Morkwap Dongshal

Abdullateef Ajape Yusuf

Cletus Nwadiogbu (Deputy Commissioner Finance and Administration, Taraba State)

Ahmed Mohammed Bello

Abdulraheem Nurudeen

Patrick Daaor

Umar Mohammed Hadejia

The promotions were high points of the PSC’s 2nd Plenary Meeting, which was presided over by the Commission’s Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), and attended by other honourable Commissioners.

In addition to the top-tier promotions, the Commission also approved:

13 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to the rank of Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), including Umaru Bello Bichi, Omololu Vaughan, and Dr. Onwuegbuzie Gerald Awele (a medical doctor).

44 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs). Among them are Victoria Olayinka Mulero (Commanding Officer, SPU Base 22, Oyo State) and Olufunmilola Oluwaseun Amore.

412 Superintendents of Police (SPs) to the rank of Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs). Notables include Ngozi Ajaegbu of the Police Special Fraud Unit, Lagos Annex, and Oke Oluleke Oluseye, CSO to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy.

The Commission also approved the promotion of several Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) to Superintendents (SPs) and confirmed the appointment of numerous Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs).

Chairman Argungu congratulated all the newly promoted officers, urging them to “rededicate their service to the Nigerian nation.” The Plenary Meeting is scheduled to continue today, Friday, October 17, 2025.
