Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu today swore in the newly elected chairmen and vice chairmen across Lagos State’s 57 local governments and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), urging them to prioritize service delivery and accountability to the populace.

During the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Oolu reminded the newly inaugurated officials that their leadership roles were fundamentally about service to the people. “Our people have placed their trust and their dreams in their hands,” he stated, outlining the public’s expectations for improved living conditions. These include “safer streets, better roads, functional health centers, thriving schools, clean markets, and real opportunities for our youth.”

The Governor stressed that Lagos State is relying on the local government leaders to drive tangible development at the grassroots level, reaching “every street, every ward, and every community.”

A significant point highlighted by Governor Sanwo-Olu was the full autonomy now granted to local governments, providing them with direct access to their funds. This autonomy, he underscored, comes with direct accountability. “No excuses,” he declared, adding, “We will support you, but we will also hold you to the highest standards.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu concluded his address by reiterating that “Lagos deserves nothing less,” reinforcing the high expectations placed on the new local government leadership.
