In a heartwarming display of camaraderie that transcended fierce on-field rivalry, select players from Nigeria’s Super Falcons visited South African Banyana Banyana winger Gabriela Salgado at the Mohamed VI Hospital in Casablanca. The gesture followed their intensely contested WAFCON semi-final match, where Salgado sustained a season-ending injury.
Salgado suffered a mid-shaft fracture of her left leg during the hard-fought semi-final clash against Nigeria. Recognizing the significant physical and emotional toll of such an injury, the Super Falcons, led by captain Rasheedat Ajibade, extended a compassionate hand.
Key players like Michelle Alozie, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Ashleigh Plumptre, and Ifeoma Onumonu, accompanied their captain to the hospital. As a token of their support and encouragement, they presented Salgado with a signed jersey.
This simple act of sportsmanship by the Nigerian team shows the true spirit of football, demonstrating solidarity and respect among competitors even after a high-stakes encounter.
