The victorious Super Falcons of Nigeria have touched down in the nation’s capital, Abuja, today, Monday, July 28, 2025, bringing home the highly coveted Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) trophy. The team’s aircraft landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport around 2:10 pm, to a triumphant welcome.
The Nigerian national women’s football team secured their historic 10th continental title on Saturday in Morocco, after a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory against the host nation. In a dramatic final, the Super Falcons fought back from a two-goal deficit, with Jennifer Echegini scoring the decisive winning goal that sealed their championship status.
Celebrations are set to continue across the capital city with an open-bus parade planned for the team and their newly won trophy. The victory parade route will encompass prominent areas of Abuja, including Airport Road, the Berger junction, the bustling Maitama and Wuse Market areas, before culminating at the Presidential Villa.
Following the parade, President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to host the players and officials at the Presidential Villa, in recognition of their outstanding achievement.
The Super Falcons’ triumph in Morocco was further decorated with individual accolades. Team captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, was deservingly named the player of the tournament for her exceptional performance throughout the competition. Ajibade, alongside teammates Esther Okoronkwo, Michelle Alozie, and Chiamaka Nnadozie, also earned a place in the prestigious tournament’s Best Eleven, highlighting the team’s dominant presence and individual brilliance.
