Director-General of TCTI, Professor Taoheed Adedoja, made this known on Monday during a courtesy visit to the newly appointed Cross River SUBEB Chairperson, Barr. Mrs. Fidelia Okpo-Ene, in Calabar. Professor Adedoja stressed that the collaboration is crucial for empowering teachers’ classroom abilities and ensuring that basic education aligns with national and global standards.

Presenting the Institute’s profile, the Director-General emphasized TCTI’s credentials as a World Bank-recognized training institution and a CERTIPORT accredited training center. He stressed the Institute’s readiness to undertake comprehensive training programs for all teachers under the SUBEB mandate, including those transitioning to the new educational framework.

Professor Adedoja, a former Minister of Sports and Special Duties, informed the SUBEB Chairperson that TCTI has already trained over 4,000 primary and secondary school teachers in digital literacy and digital awareness since the establishment of the Institution.

The DG reiterated that TCTI is prepared to provide the necessary new skills to teachers in Cross River State and across Nigeria for the smooth offtake of the newly revised curricula for basic and secondary education.

The new SUBEB Chairperson, Dr. Mrs. Okpo-Ene, who is also a Barrister, expressed her profound appreciation for the visit from the DG and his team. She noted that Professor Adedoja’s wealth of experience, having previously served as a SUBEB Chairman and Commissioner for Education in Oyo State, would be invaluable to the partnership. Barr. Okpo-Ene stated that she looks forward to a follow-up meeting with the full SUBEB Board to discuss concrete steps for teachers’ development in the state.

The meeting consisted of Hon. Joseph Ogar, Board Member I of SUBEB and Mr. Etta Inyang Eyo, Board Secretary of SUBEB, among other officials. The collaboration is expected to significantly boost the quality of basic education in the state, which has been identified as a key component of the state’s comprehensive educational reforms.
