Trump Brokers Ceasefire Between Israel and Iran, But Accounts Differ

President Donald Trump has reportedly played a pivotal role in negotiating a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.

According to Al Jazeera, the White House indicates that Trump first secured an agreement from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to halt strikes.

Following this, Trump reportedly sought the assistance of Qatar’s Emir in reaching out to Tehran.

He is quoted as telling the Qatari ruler, “I’ve got the Israelis, but we need the Iranians on side.” The Emir, along with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, then engaged in diplomatic efforts that brought Iran to the negotiation table.

However, Iran’s perspective on the ceasefire’s initiation appears to differ. Al Jazeera also reported that a local Iranian media outlet claims Trump directly called Iranian officials, “pleading” for a ceasefire.
