His Excellency, Sir Benedict Ayade CON, represented Cross River North Senatorial District from 6 June 2011 to 29 May 2015, emerging as one of the most impactful and intellectually driven lawmakers in the 7th National Assembly.
As Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Ecology, and a key member of strategic committees such as Petroleum (Downstream), Education, and Drugs/Narcotics/Crime, he distinguished himself through active participation in legislative oversight and national discourse. His presence in these committees was not ceremonial but deeply influential, shaping critical national conversations.
Senator Ayade co-sponsored 41 bills, out of which 18 were central to his legislative vision. These include landmark initiatives such as the Nigerian Naira Stabilization Bill, Nigeria Expatriate Quota Control Bill, Job Creation and Protection Bill, Federal Scholarship Commission Bill, Petroleum Refineries Bill, Green Cities Development Bill, and the National Energy Bill. These bills reflected a forward-thinking agenda aimed at economic stability, youth empowerment, environmental sustainability, and national development.
Beyond bill sponsorship, his contributions on the Senate floor were profound. He was a strong voice in debates on environmental protection, climate change, and the devastating impact of oil exploration in the Niger Delta. With a solid academic background in environmental microbiology, he brought rare scientific insight into policymaking—advocating passionately for oil spill bioremediation, environmental justice, and stronger safeguards for oil-producing communities.
His interventions were not limited to debate alone; he consistently supported motions that promoted environmental sustainability, ecological disaster response, and prudent resource management. His contributions in energy policy, oil and gas reforms, and environmental legislation positioned him as a technically grounded and solution-driven legislator.
Importantly, Senator Ayade complemented his legislative role with tangible constituency interventions. Initiatives such as the Ayade Food Bank and Ayade Transport provided direct relief to vulnerable families, easing economic hardship and transportation challenges within his constituency. These efforts demonstrated a rare blend of legislative excellence and grassroots impact.
In summary, Sen. Ben Ayade’s tenure in the Senate was defined by intellectual depth, legislative productivity, and meaningful constituency engagement. He did not merely occupy a seat—he used it to influence policy, advocate for the environment, and deliver practical benefits to his people.
Indeed, his record as a senator reflects not just performance, but purpose-driven leadership—and the expectation remains that he can achieve even greater impact in future public service.
