NewGlobe, Nigerian Governors’ Forum Lead National Dialogue on Basic Learning

NewGlobe, a leading education technology partner, has reaffirmed its commitment to helping Nigerian states improve basic education. The company made this announcement at a recent State-level Workshop for Foundation Learning and Out-of-School Children, an event co-hosted with the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) in Abuja.

The workshop addressed the country’s education crisis, where over 10 million children are out of school and a vast majority of those in school lack foundational skills. The discussions highlighted systemic issues, including an undervalued teaching workforce, fragmented policy implementation, and a misplaced focus on infrastructure over learning outcomes.

NewGlobe’s Vice-President for Policy and Partnerships, Ifeyinwa Ugochukwu, emphasized the urgency of the situation. “If we do not act quickly and deliberately, we will be too late for millions of children,” she stated, noting that NewGlobe’s technology-enabled solution can transform learning outcomes at scale.

NewGlobe presented its model, which focuses on strengthening public education by providing teachers with real-time digital tools, structured lesson guides, and continuous coaching. This approach ensures instructional quality and accountability. The model is currently being implemented in states like Lagos (EKOEXCEL), Kwara (KwaraLEARN), Bayelsa (BayelsaPRIME), Edo and Jigawa (JigawaUNITE).

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, speaking through NGF Education Advisor Leo The Great, stressed that access to education is insufficient without a focus on learning outcomes. He noted that structured pedagogy has already shown success in Kwara and Edo states, with teacher feedback increasing by over 200%.

Aisha Garba, the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), called for a unified approach among all stakeholders. “We are here to work for one client, the Nigerian child,” she said, urging partners to align with UBEC’s agenda and ensure intervention funds respond to the actual needs of the education sector.
