Niger Police Arrest 24 Suspects, Recover Firearm in Anti-Thuggery Sting Operation

The Niger State Police Command has arrested 24 suspects in a renewed effort to combat thuggery, youth restiveness, and armed robbery in the Minna metropolis. The arrests were made during a sting operation on July 30, following an intensification of the fight against these crimes.

According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Wasi’u Abiodun, a combined team of the Police Anti-thuggery Unit, supported by Maitumbi and Central Police Stations and local vigilante members, conducted the operation. The arrests took place at several locations, including Angwa-Roka, Kwari-Berger, Flamingo and Tudun.

The suspects, all males, were aged between 16 and 30. During the operation, police recovered an Automatic Pump Gun with two live cartridges, a bolt cutter, various cutlasses, scissors, shisha pots, and other illicit substances.

The suspects are currently under investigation, and police efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of their gangs.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Elleman, assured the public of the command’s commitment to proactively tackling crime and criminality. He urged residents to continue supporting the police with information and cooperation to address security challenges.
