The member representing Akpabuyo/Bakassi/Calabar South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Joseph Bassey, has commended the Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prince Bassey Otu for securing President Bola Tinubu’s approval for the construction of Bakassi Deep Sea Port under the transformative Public-Private Partnership.
The Bakassi Deep Seaport is a strategic maritime infrastructure project expected to attract about $2.27 billion in private investment.
Hon. Bassey said that Governor Otu has demonstrated exceptional leadership, strategic diplomacy, and unwavering commitment to the economic emancipation of the state and the entire South-South region by successfully securing Presidential approval from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the long-envisioned Bakassi Deep Sea Port project.
The federal lawmaker said that the historic achievement marks a defining moment in Cross River’s development trajectory and stands as a testament to Governor Otu’s proactive engagement with the federal government, private sector, and international stakeholders.
“His efforts have not only fulfilled decades-old aspiration but have also positioned Cross River State as a future epicenter of maritime trade, logistics, and industrialization in West and Central Africa.
“Governor Bassey Otu, upon assuming office in 2023, reignited this vision with renewed vigor. Recognizing that infrastructure is the bedrock of industrial and human development, he made the Bakassi Deep Sea Port a cornerstone of his development agenda —a comprehensive economic blueprint aimed at transforming Cross River into Nigeria’s tourism, logistics, and agro-export capital.
“On behalf of the good people of the federal constituency, I hereby extend our highest commendation to His Excellency, Senator Bassey Otu, for his visionary leadership, tireless advocacy, and statesmanship in securing this landmark project.
