Following a trend of state governments rewarding their indigenous players and coaches from the victorious Super Falcons team, there is a growing call for the Cross River State Government to honor its own heroine, Miracle Usani.
This plea comes after Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State gifted Coach Justine Madugu N50 million and a new house for leading the team to victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Similarly, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State rewarded seven players from his state with N10 million each.
According to a sports writer and enthusiast, Eugene Upah, as the only player from Cross River State on the team Miracle should also get a direct handshake with the Governor. Mr Upah appealed to the state government to officially receive and honor Miracle Usani, who hails from Yakurr. He suggested that a state sports medal or other form of recognition or gratification would serve as a powerful motivation to boost her morale and inspire other young athletes in the state.
