The Edo State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, on Monday celebrated academic excellence by presenting a cash award of N500,000 to Omigie Osaigbovo Cecil, who emerged as Edo State’s highest scorer in the 2025 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination with an impressive score of 372.

The recognition ceremony, held at the Commissioner’s office, saw Dr. Iyamu commend Cecil for his outstanding performance, urging him to continue his pursuit of excellence. The Commissioner emphasized that this gesture aligns with Senator Monday Okpebholo’s commitment to driving development and ensuring the best for all Edo students.
“There is dignity in excellence, and we are incredibly proud of Omigie’s achievement on behalf of the entire state,” Dr. Iyamu stated. He further announced that Omigie Osaigbovo Cecil has been named an ambassador for the Ministry of Education, a testament to his remarkable feat.
The Commissioner also highlighted the current administration’s dedication to improving the education sector. He reiterated Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo’s commitment to bridging educational gaps and fostering growth within the state’s educational landscape.
In his response, Omigie Osaigbovo Cecil expressed profound gratitude for the warm reception and recognition. He revealed his ambition to study Mechanical Engineering at the university, attributing his success to diligent hard work and disciplined study habits. He extended thanks to the Commissioner and his parents for their unwavering support, offering advice to fellow students to “study smart and maintain a consistent reading schedule.”
