The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has announced his intention to run for the Agege Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives on the platform of the All Progressives Congress APC.
Obasa, who has represented Agege Constituency I since 2003, declared his bid on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting in Agege. He has served as Speaker of the state assembly since 2015.
The move will end his 23-year tenure in the state legislature, spanning six consecutive terms. Obasa said he is seeking to replace Rep. Wale Ahmed, whose first term in the federal lower chamber will end in 2027. Party leaders in the constituency, he said, had urged him to enter the race.
As part of the transition, Obasa’s political protégé and former Agege Local Government Chairman, Kola Egunjobi, will now seek the APC ticket for Agege Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly. Egunjobi had earlier mobilized for the federal seat before stepping aside for his mentor.
Obasa also called on party members to back Azeez Oladapo Yusuf Ninolowo’s bid for Agege Constituency II in the state assembly.
The announcement adds to the growing list of aspirants jostling for APC tickets in Agege ahead of the primaries. Supporters of various contenders have intensified mobilization among party members and constituents.
Residents and APC stakeholders across Lagos are now awaiting the outcome of the party’s screening exercise at both state and national levels ahead of the primaries.
