Oborevwori to Break Ground on Aboh–Akarai Road, Okiri River Bridge Wednesday

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori will perform the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Aboh–Akarai Road and a bridge across the Okiri River in Ndokwa East LGA on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

The Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has already inspected the project site ahead of the ceremony.

The project spans 10.9km with a 7.3m paved carriageway and includes a 100m reinforced concrete bridge across the Okiri River, designed with 5 spans of 20m each. The road will feature 2.5m grassed shoulders on both sides.

Key engineering works include full site clearance, earth filling, a 150mm crushed stone base course, durable rigid pavement with asphalt surfacing, modern concrete drains and slabs, replacement of undersized drainage systems, and installation of culverts for water flow management.

The bridge is expected to end long-standing river-crossing challenges, ensuring safer and more reliable movement for riverine communities year-round.

On completion, the road is projected to deliver faster and safer travel between Aboh and Akarai, improved access to healthcare, education, and markets, a boost in local trade, and a better quality of life for residents.

The Oborevwori administration described the project as a major step toward transforming connectivity and driving growth and development in Ndokwa East.
