A 19-year-old student has reportedly duped the All India Football Federation (AIFF) into believing that legendary Spanish midfielder Xavi Hernandez had applied for the vacant position of India’s national team coach.
According to a report by The Telegraph India, the audacious prank involved the student creating a fictitious Gmail account and then using ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence language model, to compose an email. The prompt given to ChatGPT was “write an email by Xavi Hernandez expressing his interest to coach the Indian football team.”
The AI-generated message was apparently convincing enough to be taken seriously by the AIFF. The federation reportedly even went so far as to brief media outlets, suggesting that Xavi’s salary demands might prove to be a significant hurdle in any potential negotiations. The incident highlights the growing sophistication of AI tools and the potential for their misuse, even in seemingly official capacities.
