Immediate past Governor of Cross River State, Senator Professor Ben Ayade, CON, has laid his elder brother, late Mr. Placidus Ugah Ogar, to rest in his hometown in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The late Ogar, who passed on in July 2026 at the age of 76, was described as an accomplished husband, brother, uncle and a distinguished family and traditional man whose life embodied humility, wisdom and commitment to communal values.
His burial, which held between Thursday, August 13 and Saturday, August 15, 2026, was marked by pomp, solemnity and rich display of Obudu tradition, drawing a large array of dignitaries from across the country.
The three-day funeral rites attracted political leaders, captains of industry, traditional rulers and friends and associates of the Ayade family from all walks of life.
Among the dignitaries present were the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Otu, represented by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey; the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Cross River State, Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, serving and former federal lawmakers; members of the Cross River State Executive Council; former and serving appointees, Members of the Cross River State House of Assembly, a former Minister of Sports and Special Duties, Professor Taoheed Adedoja and a host of other eminent personalities.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Odey, on behalf of Governor Otu, commiserated with Senator Ayade and the entire Ogar family, praying for the peaceful repose of the soul of the deceased and for God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation also condoled with the family, describing the late Placidus Ogar as a patriarch whose legacies of love, unity and discipline will continue to live on in the family he left behind.
In his vote of thanks, Senator Ayade expressed profound gratitude to all who stood by the family during the period of mourning and who travelled from far and near to honour his late brother.
He described his elder brother as not just a brother but a father figure, a guide and a pillar of strength whose wise counsel and traditional uprightness shaped the family’s values.
The late Mr. Placidus Ugah Ogar is survived by his wife, children, siblings and many relatives.
