Calabar Deep Seaport, Obong of Calabar Backs Maritime Vision At World Hydrographic Day

The 2025 edition of World Hydrography Day was celebrated today in Abuja, under the theme “Seabed Mapping: Enabling Ocean Action.”

The event brought together key stakeholders in Nigeria’s maritime, defense, legal, and diplomatic communities, alongside international hydrographic experts, to unveil a groundbreaking survey of Nigeria’s coastal waters with particular attention on the Calabar coastline stretching from Jamestown and beyond.

These surveys are expected to be central to the realization of the Calabar Deep Seaport, a major infrastructural project for the Gulf of Guinea.

His Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi-Otu V, the Obong of Calabar and Grand Patriarch of the Efik Kingdom, who delivered a powerful keynote address that underscored the cultural, economic, and spiritual relevance of the sea to the Efik people.
