The race for the Borno State governorship has intensified as former Commissioner for Works and Housing, Mustapha Gubio, formally joined the 2027 contest after picking the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination and expression of interest forms in Abuja.
Gubio, who recently resigned from the State Executive Council in line with Governor Babagana Zulum’s directive permitting political appointees to pursue elective offices, is now positioning himself as a frontline contender for the APC ticket.
His entry signals heightened political activity ahead of the next general elections, with consultations and alignments already underway across party structures in the state. Stakeholders are expected to play decisive roles in determining the APC’s eventual flagbearer.
Political observers say Gubio’s move will likely heat up the contest, as other aspirants are also preparing to declare interest in the governorship seat.
Party insiders note that obtaining the nomination form is only the first stage. Aspirants will still undergo screening and party primaries before a candidate emerges for the 2027 election.
